Proposal to Save Irwindale Speedway & Event Center

WHO IS IMPACTED?
The closure of Irwindale Speedway will leave a deep wound in the hearts of the thousands of fans, racers, and families who have come to call it home. For 25 years, this iconic track has been the heart of Southern California’s motorsports community, bringing together people from all walks of life to share their love of racing, automobiles, and everything related to automotive culture. Whether it was a thrilling NASCAR race, a night of demolition derby chaos, Nitro-Revival on the dragstrip, or the adrenaline-packed Formula Drift. Irwindale has been more than just a venue—it’s been a sanctuary and center for automotive-recreation. For many, it’s where lifelong friendships were made, where families bonded, and where passion for motorsports was born. The loss of this place will leave a void that can never be filled, a place that felt like home for so many. Local businesses, too, will feel the pain as they lose the rush of event-goers who brought life and commerce to the area. Both the Southern California/National automotive communities will be robbed of this landmark speedway and more existentially-the country of yet another piece of our beloved automotive history.

WHAT IS AT STAKE?

If Irwindale Speedway closes, it’s not just facilities and parking lots that’s lost—it’s the spirit of racing that will disappear with it. This venue has been a lifeline for grassroots motorsports, offering a platform for up-and-coming racers and giving fans the chance to experience the thrill of live competition. The loss of this track will send shockwaves through both the local motorsports scene and national, cutting off a vital space for people to pursue their passion. Events like Formula Drift, which Irwindale has helped build into a worldwide phenomenon, may never have the same energy or history without this home. The local economy will suffer as surrounding businesses lose the crowds and excitement that come with each race. Without a place for the youth to legally get their taste for speed and adrenaline—this closure could consequentially see the city of Irwindale, and other nearby cities, deal with more cases of car-related disturbances. Most of all, it’s a blow to automotive culture, to the communities that have supported it, and to the fans who have spent years cheering from the stands. Simply put, if Irwindale goes, a piece of Southern California’s soul goes with it.

WHY IS NOW THE TIME TO ACT?
Now is the time to act because the clock is ticking, and once Irwindale is gone, it’s gone forever. With plans to tear down the Speedway and turn it into an industrial park already in motion, there’s no time to lose. The final events in December are not just a farewell—they’re a last-ditch chance to preserve a legacy that has defined tens of thousands of racers and fans. We can’t let this place fade into history without a fight. Irwindale has been the backdrop for countless unforgettable moments—races that sparked lifelong passions, events that brought communities together. If we don’t act now, we risk losing more than just a track; we risk losing a part of who we are. This is a moment for the community to come together, for fans and racers to stand united, and for all of us to ensure that Irwindale’s legacy lives on. The time to fight for an automotive icon is now!
